Boy (15) in court for theft of electronic gadgets

A 15 years old Boy has been arraigned to the Choma Juveniles Court on allegations of stealing electronic gadgets valued at over K4,000.

In this matter, the Juvenile offender from Chief Chikaanta’s Chiefdom is facing one count of theft contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

Allegations are that the boy stole 1 Laptop Computer, a Dstv Decoder and 1 Cell Phone all valued at K4,380, the property of Elvis Moonde.

The alleged theft is said to have happened on   June 12,  2020 in Choma.

When he appeared for plea in the company of a Social Welfare Officer before Senior Resident Magistrate Mupemo after efforts to locate his parents proved futile, the teenager pleaded guilty.

Court: Have you understood the charge read to you?

Juvenile: I have understood.

Court: Do you admit or deny?

Juvenile: I admit

Court: Did you take the things listed here?

Juvenile:I took them, but I didn’t know that they were stolen.

Court: So you did not steal?

Juvenile: No I did not, I was just took them after being given.

Court: I record a plea of not guilty.

After recording an equivocal plea of not guilty, the Court adjourned the matter to a later date after Public Prosecutor Pearson Chilumbu made the application.

The matter will come up on  July 2 for trial.

The Juvenile offender was remanded in custody.
