Chella Tukuta detained for criminal libel

POLICE in Lusaka have arrested popular photographer Chella Tukuta for Criminal Libel.

Police spokesperson Esther Katongo confirmed the arrest of Tukuta in Lusaka.

Ms. Katongo said that Mr. Tukuta has been arrested in connection with some derogatory remarks alleged to have been produced and posted on social media.

She said that the accused is alleged accused Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, Dora Siliya, Zambia Revenue Authority Commissioner General (ZRA), Kingsley Chanda, Northern Province Permanent Secretary, Charles Sipanje and Former Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations, Amos Chanda.

She said that the accused person is in police custody and is yet to be charged with four counts of Criminal Libel.

“Police in Lusaka have arrested Chellar Tukuta for Criminal Libel. This is in connection with some derogatory remarks alleged to have been produced and posted on social media by the accused person against Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, Hon. Dora Siliya, Zambia Revenue Authority Commissioner General (ZRA), Kingsley Chanda, Northern Province Permanent Secretary, Charles Sipanje and Former Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations, Amos Chanda,” she said.

The accused person is in police custody yet to be charged with four counts of Criminal Libel. He is also expected to face more charges on the Copper belt.

Ms. Katongo further said that Tukuta is also expected to face more charges on the Copper belt.

Chella Tukuta an international photographer has of late taken to social media issuing defamatory remarks against public figures.

Tukuta who claims to speak for the poor has been criticizing government officials and revealing their private life.
