CHINA Geo Corporation must employ local people as they work on the Luwingu-Lupososhi- Chaba Road, demands Northern Province Minister Chungu Bwalya.
Mr Bwalya who is also Member of Parliament (MP) for Lupososhi Constituency said the Chinese construction company was free to employ experts from elsewhere but general workers must be employed from within local community.
According to PF Northern Province youth secretary, Chanda Nsofu, the minister was speaking last week when he visited the China Geo Corporation construction camp in Luwingu district.
Mr Bwalya urged China Geo Corporation human resource manager Richard Mwansa to employ people from Luwingu, Lupososhi and Chilubi Districts where the road is passing in.
“As you employ from these three districts, those who live along the road must be given first priority in employment,” Mr Chungu said.
He further advised the China Geo Corporation project site management to create a good working relationship with local leaders such as headmen, chiefs, councillors, council chairpersons, district commissioners and MPs for their work to go on smoothly.
The Provincial Minister urged the construction company to expedite work as the rain season was coming to an end China Geo Corporation by quickly mobilizing all the necessary construction equipment and go full swing in constructing the road.
Mr Bwalya said President Edgar Lungu was very much interested to see the roads being done as soon as possible because a lot of developmental projects depended on the completion of the road.
Meanwhile, China Geo Corporation project site manager, Wang Chao said the Corporation was very much committed to the construction of the road and that they had just expanded the camp site to accommodate more equipment.
Mr Chao said they would take on board the advice of Mr Bwalya, but appealed to the government to be releasing funding on road construction on time for them to complete the project within the stipulated time.
The Provincial Minister was accompanied by Lubansenshi MP, George Mwamba, Lupososhi DC Mambwe Katontoka, Lupososhi DAO Idah Mulima, PF Provincial vice Secretary Remmy Kabali and various senior government officials.
