ZAMBIA recognizes that Climate Change is real and has not spared countries globally and efforts being taken to mitigate its effects should be commended, says Zambia’s Ambassador to Brazil Alfreda Kansembe-Mwamba.
Dr Kansembe – Mwamba said many countries in the Southern African region had been hit by droughts and floods leaving them with the burden of dealing with negative effects of climate change.
She however expressed happiness that the Zambian government had taken some strides and was considering other options of power generation as a mitigation factor against drought and low water levels.
This is contained in a statement issued to ZANIS yesterday by First Secretary, Press and Public Relations, at the Zambian Embassy in Brazil, Grace Makowane.
Dr Kansembe – Mwamba was speaking in the Chilean Capital Santiago shortly after presenting her credentials to the President of that country Sebastian Pinera at a colorful ceremony that included inspecting a guard of honour.
Zambia’s Ambassador to Brazil has extra accreditation to Chile and said she was excited with the pace at which matters of climate change were moving globally.
The Chilean Government will this December 2019 host the Santiago Climate Summit Cop 25.
And the Chile’s Cop 25 Chief negotiator Rodrigo Olsen said the Santiago Summit would be about action and implementation, taking the climate change agenda to a higher level.
Mr. Olsen said countries had done enough talking on the topic and should now move to action.-ZANIS
