A 26-year old Lusaka business woman, has sued her husband of seven years for marriage reconciliation after living apart for a year due to differences.
Mary Nyirongo of Chainda Township appeared before Chelstone Local Court presiding magistrate Kennedy Mwansa Mutale, sitting with magistrate Mary Namangala, in a matter in which she sued Paul Phiri, 37, of the same area for reconciliation.
Nyirongo told court she got married to Phiri in 2012 and has two children with him though he did not pay dowry.
“My husband accused me of wanting to kill him every time we quarreled, he labeled me a Satanists, and chased me from the house. I have been living at my brother’s house for a year now,” she said.
Nyirongo said, “I have waited for very long for him to come and collect me but he has never shown up or shown any concern, I love him and I want him back.’
But Phiri in his defense, refused to reconcile with his wife saying she was a disrespectful woman.
“My wife doesn’t respect me and my family and her actions don’t please me, she doesn’t want to go to church and threatens to kill me every time we have a misunderstanding,” he said.
“I run a shop and whenever a woman comes to buy something, she insults me, and whenever I delay to knock off, she accuses me of coming from seeing prostitutes,” Phiri said.
He said he didn’t love his wife anymore and could not reconcile with her.
Court observed that it could not force the couple to reconcile if one of them did not love the other. The court also ruled it could not decide on the case because there was no marriage between the two as no dowry was paid.
