THE Boma Local Court in Lusaka has fined a 19-year-old man of Kabanana Township K10, 000 for damaging a girl’s virginity.
Senior local court magistrate Bertha Zulu ordered Peter Chulu to compensate Boyd Mugala, 38, who had sued him for impregnating his sister.
Mr Chulu had earlier refused to commit himself to paying for the damage despite accepting responsibility.
Mugala told court when Chulu damaged his sister, a Grade 12 pupil, he called him in February and talked to him.
“He accepted he was the one who had impregnated her and we charged him K25,000,” Mugala said.
“He complained it was too high. So we asked him to pay K18,000 after some negotiations. He refused to sign the agreement saying he was waiting for his father to come. That’s where we started having problems,” Mugala said.
He said he decided to take Chulu to court because there was no progress.
However, Chulu, said he did not have much to say and that he had never refused to pay.
“I don’t know these people. I just know Milika, the girl I impregnated. The money will be paid but the problem is that the amount they charged was very high,” he said.
The court ordered Chulu to pay K10, 000 as compensation for the damage.
