COURT SAVES TROUBLED MARRIAGE

LUCY PHIRI writes @SunZambian

A CARPENTER of Lusaka has been sued for marriage reconciliation in the Chelstone Local Court for failing to support his family and still communicates with his former wife.

Wendy Mulenga, 21, of Kasisi area sued her husband, Harrison Mulenga, 30, of the same area for marriage reconciliation.

Mulenga told presiding magistrate Mary Namangala she got married in 2017, with one child and dowry was partly paid.

She said her husband id not support the family and beat her frequently.

He used to call her a prostitute whenever ever she asked for money to buy food for the family.

“My husband always talks to his ex-wife, whom he has two children with. They communicate on a daily basis and whenever I ask him or tell him to sit down and talk about the whole issue he refuses,” Mulenga said.

“His former wife usually comes, and whenever they meet he comes home wounded to beat me and her former wife always insults me whenever we meet,” she said.

Mulenga said she wanted her husband to change his behaviour of not supporting her and the child.

He should at least start leaving reasonable amounts of money at home, not the K20 he left after a while.

“I want my husband to be honest in everything and to provide food. I have stayed for four days without food. No wonder I have been away from home for a week at my parents’ house.

“I still love him, which is why I want this court to help us,” she said.

Harrison denied the allegations saying he supported the family, but the main reason for their misunderstandings was his wife’s refusal to keep his son from his former wife.

“My wife doesn’t like my son. She doesn’t like it when I communicate with my ex-wife because I am the one who supports them being their father,’’ he said.

“She even lied that I beat her but she is the one who always beats me when I am asleep, she usually comes with a pounding motor pestle to hit me in my sleep and sometimes uses cooking sticks on me. After that she calls police officers to arrest me accusing me of beating her,” Harrison said.

“I want her to accept and love my kids and also to trust me and stop beating me because her behaviour is bad,” he said.

After hearing both parties the court reconciled them and advised the couple to go and live in harmony.
