A MAN of Lusaka’s Ng’ombe Township shocked the Boma Local Court in Lusaka when he divorced his wife because he could not have sex with her as every night he cries for his ex-wife.
Daniel Phiri, 45, sued Rachael Chitambala, 31 of Kabanana for divorce because of problems in their marriage.
Phiri told senior local court magistrate Juliet Mwila that since he married Chitambala in 2016, they had never stayed in peace because of his ex-wife.
“We got married in 2015 but have never stayed in peace. She doesn’t have any problem, I am the problem,
“I used to be married to another woman and we had three children but one died. I think a lot about my ex-wife and my heart hurts so much,” he said.
He did not know what his ex-wife did to him that he could not stop remembering her and no longer loved his current wife with whom he had stopped having sex altogether.
“Even when I sleep at night I dream about my ex-wife. Sometimes I wake up to cry. I bought a mattress for my wife so that she can stop sleeping on our bed with me,
“I rented her a house in Kabanana because my heart refuses me to be with her. I want her to be free and live her life that’s why I brought her for divorce,” Phiri said.
Chitambala however told the court that she still loved her husband.
“We stayed well in the beginning but I noticed he started losing interest in me. He stopped wanting to sleep with me and removed me from our matrimonial bed,”
“One time we stayed for almost three months without sex. He looked for a house in Kabanana and said he’ll be paying rentals for me. He later told me he impregnated someone else who even slept in our matrimonial house. We’ve been on separation for 11 months,” she said.
The court found that there was unfaithfulness in the marriage and no love.
Divorce was granted and magistrate Mwila ordered Phiri to compensate Chitambala with K8, 000.
