Planning officer, businesswoman sued for assault

MULENGA MUSONDA writes

A CHIRUNDU Ministry of General Education planning officer and a businesswoman have appeared in the Choma Magistrates Court charged with assault.

It is alleged that on July 22 in Choma, Johns Mulombwa, 51 and Mary Mumba, 38 jointly assaulted Mr James Mudenda.

When the matter came up for plea before Senior Resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo, both accused persons denied the charge

When Public Prosecutor Dexter Kwalela called the first witness to testify at the start of the trial, Mulombwa indicated to the court that he was not ready to proceed with trial as he needed more time to engage legal representation.

The matter was adjourned to August 16 for commencement of trial after granting Mulombwa his application.

Mulombwa was however warned that another adjournment would not be allowed and he needed to be ready at the next sitting.

Mulombwa and Mumba’s bonds were extended.
