Makeni Villa residents cry for police post

CEASAR MBEWE

THE increased crime levels in Lusaka’s Makeni Villa area has forced residents to appeal to government to urgently consider erecting a police force in the community.
Residents through their chairman, Mr Julius Chola told the Sun that he had called for a meeting with the area member of parliament on the issue to try and find a way on how they could curb crime in the area.
Mr Chola said there was serious need for setting up a police station or police post in the area as people were now living in fear and people were being attacked on a daily basis as early as 18.00hours.
“To be honest Kanyama Police is far from here and it’s not possible for the Kanyama police to respond on time if there is a criminal activity happening,
“That’s why I’ve set up a meeting with the MP to try and see how best we can protect the community as requested by the people,” said Mr Chola
Meanwhile Police spokesperson, Esther Mwata Katongo when reached for a comment said the only way a police post or station could be built was if the community gave out a plot or land for the same
“Police posts or stations are not built anyhow. There must be community involvement, one way is for the community to identify a plot of a piece of land where police can build a the needed post,” she said.
