RESTAURANT owners in the central business (CBD) district of Lusaka have intensified cleaning their surrounding for fear of losing business in the event of a cholera outbreak.
Emilia Chomba, a restaurant owner in the area said her business would be at risk once there was an outbreak of cholera as the city was dirty.
Ms Chomba explained that the city needed to be cleaned up as most businesses may collapse if there was an outbreak.
She was speaking yesterday in an interview in Lusaka.
“It would be nice if the soldiers came back in town and made sure that the city is completely clean. It is slowly becoming dirty and we fear that there may be a cholera outbreak since we are in the rain season.
“We are conducting some clean-up at our restaurants but more needs to be done in the entire city. Cleaning up my area is not enough to prevent a cholera outbreak,” she said.
Ms Chomba lamented that families would suffer once businesses were closed as they solely depended on that for income generation.
She has since encouraged other business owners in the city to clean up their surroundings and ensure that they protected themselves from losing out in revenue earning.
