SCORES of sports personalities and people from all walks of life paid their last respect to former Zambia under-20 coach Hector Chilombo at Lusaka’s Bread of Life church where his memorial service was held yesterday.

Among the noted personalities that were present at the funeral service were FAZ deputy general secretary, Joseph Chimpapwe, former FAZ vice-president Emmanuel Munaile, former FAZ general secretary George Kasengele, former FAZ executive committee member Mwansa Mbulakulima who is also member of Parliament for Chembe and Kasenengwa member of Parliament Sensio Banda.

Meanwhile Coach Chilombo’s son Chamuntu, gave a moving tribute to his father who he described as loving man who always respected his mother ( Chilombo’s wife).

Chamutu said his father always loved his mother that he always charmed her with different gifts and was also a friend of all his children.

“Dad was very close to my young brother Chellah, he and my brother(Chellah) were like best friends that had just met, they shared a lot in common especially when they talked about football and I would tease Chellah each time he was called by Dad , I would tell him that your best friend is calling you,’’ he remarked.

“To my little sister Njamvwa, dad had a soft spot for her, we always knew if you want something from Dad you had to go through Njamvwa and it was Njanvwa who actually committed dad to the Lord a few years ago.

Kamutu charged his father’s commitment to his Christianity faith was the best thing that ever happened to him, adding that he was confident that he father was in better place because he died leading a Christian life.

And Chimpapwe described the late Chilombo as someone he knew not only in football circles but from their childhood days in Mansa where they played street football
(Chimpombwa) together.

He paid glowing tribute to coach Chilombo’s son Chamutu for what he described a very touching eulogy of his father.

Meanwhile Zambia Football coaches Association ( ZAFCA) deputy secretary general Chris Tembo said Chilombo had very unique attributes of grooming young footballers where he coached age group teams such as under 17 and under 20 which he later lead the later to  COSAFA championships .
