A Ugandan witch doctor is currently on the run after obtaining K130,000, which he had promised to multiply for a client.
The victim, a Monze Town resident in Southern Province, had sought the services of Omar Jefeero, who claimed he could multiply money. The victim, Tasfex Kayuna, 35, paid a total of K130,000 in three separate installments.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga stated that after the promised results failed to materialize, Kayuna went to Jefeero’s residence in Kamwala South, only to find him missing.
“This led Mr. Kayuna to report the matter to the police. When officers arrived at the location, they discovered several suspicious items, including a dead male goat, a headless chicken, and a shallow grave containing a decomposed goat,” Hamoonga said.
Mr. Hamoonga added that no one was present at the house, prompting police to force their way inside.
“Inside, officers found various charms packed in suitcases, counterfeit notes totaling $700 in U.S. dollars, and K2,500 in fake Zambian Kwacha,” he added.
Both bedrooms in the house were reportedly filled with shrines.
Mr. Hamoonga confirmed that a case has been opened, and investigations are ongoing to capture those involved.
“The Zambia Police Service advises the public to stay alert and be cautious when dealing with individuals offering suspicious financial or investment services. We also encourage anyone with helpful information to come forward,” Hamoonga said.
