A 37-year-old woman from Chikankata district in Southern Province was brutally assaulted by five men on Friday night, who took turns raping her, leaving her nearly unconscious.
The woman had attended her grandmother’s memorial service with two friends, identified only as Bina Mutinta and Bina Mama. Upon arrival, they encountered two young men she knew, Guza Kalinda and Mike Hanzekule, who were drinking with three other men she didn’t recognize.
The men invited her to join them in drinking locally brewed beer, Mutete. Trusting Kalinda and Hanzekule, both aged between 19 and 26, she agreed to join them. However, the men had sinister intentions and plied her with alcohol. Once she was sufficiently intoxicated, they took her to Kalinda’s house around 22:00 hours, threatening her to stay quiet if she wanted to live.
The men then undressed and raped her, starting with Kalinda, followed by Hanzekule, until she lost consciousness. Her friends, noticing her absence, began searching for her and found her naked and unconscious in the house where the assault occurred.
After informing her family, Kalinda was confronted, and he admitted to the crime, naming his four accomplices. The family attempted to take him to Malabo Police Post, but Kalinda escaped during the journey.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Auxensio Daka confirmed the incident, stating that the victim had reported the assault, complaining of severe pain in her private parts and body. Police issued her a medical report, and she was rushed to Chikankata Mission Hospital for treatment. Authorities have launched a manhunt for Kalinda and the other suspects.
