Emerald Bay Zambia (Betway) recognized as the 2023 Most Compliant Taxpayer in Lusaka during ZRA’s Taxpayer’s Day event.

Emerald Bay Zambia Limited (trading as Betway), the leading sports betting and gaming brand in Zambia, has been awarded the title of Most Compliant Taxpayer in Lusaka Province for 2023. This recognition was announced during the 2024 Taxpayer’s Day event hosted by the Zambia Revenue Authority at Taj Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

At the event, ZRA Commissioner General Dingani Banda expressed optimism about the compliance rates in 2023, noting that the number of registered taxpayers contributing to revenue collection increased by 14% from 86,489 in 2022 to 98,572 in 2023. Additionally, the active taxpayer population rose by 10.1%, growing from 486,492 in 2022 to 535,735 in 2023. This reflects improving tax compliance levels over the past two years.

Anthony Prissman, Group Director of New Markets at Betway, expressed gratitude upon receiving the award, stating, “We are honored to be recognized as the Most Compliant Taxpayer, not just within our sector but across the entire Zambian industry. This reflects our commitment to operating responsibly in all the markets we serve. We recognize the environment we operate in and strive to engage regularly with regulatory authorities to enhance compliance levels. As you may know, the Betway brand is part of Super Group SGHC Limited, which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, and our responsibilities as a listed company are significant.”

ZRA Board Chair Dr. Caleb Fundanga remarked, “As the board of the Zambia Revenue Authority, we recognize the challenges associated with tax compliance. We understand that it demands time, effort, and resources. Therefore, we are dedicated to supporting you in every possible way. We are continually assessing and improving our policies, processes, and systems to ensure they are fair, transparent, and efficient. Our goal is to make tax compliance not just an obligation, but a process that is accessible and straightforward for everyone.”
