Choma infant drowns

A one-year and eight-month-old baby from Kanjanji village in Choma drowned after falling into a 20-litre bucket of water.

Southern Province Police Commissioner Auxensio Daka confirmed the incident to ZNBC News, stating that it occurred on Saturday, September 21, at around 16:00 hours. The child’s father, Witness Mudadabele, 43, had left home to work on molding bricks nearby, while the mother went to collect firewood, leaving the children unsupervised, with the eldest being 10 years old.

As the children were playing, the baby fell into the bucket of water outside the house and drowned. The 10-year-old sibling, upon realizing what had happened, carried the child to their father, who rushed the baby to a nearby ZNS clinic, where the child was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police do not suspect any foul play.
