Unidentified Assailants Brutally Attack CBU Student Near Campus

A second-year student from the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Copperbelt University (CBU) was tragically killed by unknown assailants who also stole his cell phone.

The incident happened on Saturday at around 22:30 as the student was on his way back from campus to his boarding house in Chipata Compound, Kitwe.

Before he could reach the small gate on campus, he was attacked by unidentified individuals who fled with his phone.

Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba said the case was reported by the victim’s uncle, Mulenga Musonda, at Kitwe East Police Station.

According to Mr. Mweemba, the victim, 21-year-old Kafula Musonda, suffered two severe head injuries caused by an unknown weapon.

“At around 22:30 on Saturday, the victim was returning from campus to Chipata Compound, where his boarding house is located. Before passing through the small gate, he was attacked by unknown individuals who stole his phone,” Mr. Mweemba said.

The victim managed to reach a community police post in Chipata Compound, about 600 meters from the gate, where he met Bruce Chembe, 50, who informed Kitwe East Police Station.

Officers arrived to find the victim unconscious and rushed him to Kitwe Teaching Hospital, where he was admitted.

“Sadly, the victim passed away at around 09:00 yesterday at Kitwe Teaching Hospital. His body has been placed in the mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem and burial,” Mr. Mweemba added.
