Former Kabushi Constituency Member of Parliament, Bowman Lusambo, has dismissed President Hakainde Hichilema’s claims of constitutional gaps that could delay the 2026 elections. Lusambo, who is also a member of the Patriotic Front (PF) Central Committee, emphasized that the Zambian Constitution is clear on election procedures, including the set date for elections, which all citizens are aware of.
He reiterated that President Hichilema has no legal authority to amend the constitution to extend his stay in power. Lusambo called on Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis to clarify the commission’s stance on the 2026 elections. He noted that the ECZ already released an election roadmap two months ago, and there is no need for the president to create unnecessary concerns about the elections.
Lusambo further challenged Zaloumis to openly confirm whether the commission has been holding private meetings with President Hichilema regarding the 2026 elections.
