The government has announced that Chief Justice Mumba Malila has returned home after a successful medical evacuation to South Africa. Dr. Malila was involved in a road traffic accident on the evening of Friday, August 30, 2024.
Following the accident, he was initially assessed at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) before being transferred to Maina Soko Military Hospital for further care. After evaluations by local doctors, it was determined that he needed specialized treatment, leading to his evacuation to South Africa.
Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary, Thabo Kawana, provided an update stating that the Chief Justice is making significant progress in his recovery and is now back in Zambia, where he continues to recuperate. His health is improving, and he remains in good spirits.
The government has expressed its gratitude to the medical teams in both Zambia and South Africa for their excellent care, and also thanked the public for their support, prayers, and well-wishes during this difficult time. Kawana noted that the show of solidarity reflects the nationās unity and compassion.
