Nancy Lusambo, the wife of former Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo, testified in court that she has no knowledge of the houses in Silverest Gardens, which the State claims are proceeds of crime. During the trial, she stated that she had no involvement in the purchase of these properties.
This case involves both Nancy and Bowman Lusambo, who face charges related to the possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime, conspiracy to defraud, and tax evasion. One allegation is that, between September and October 2021, the couple allegedly had $63,219.18, which was used as part payment for a house valued at $130,000 in Silverest Gardens. Additionally, they are accused of possessing another house in the same area worth $60,000.
The State suspects that both the money and the houses are linked to criminal activity. Bowman Lusambo, however, denied the accusations, claiming his assets were legitimately acquired through loans, consultancy earnings, and his salaries as a lawmaker and minister.
Ms Manase, a housewife, told the court that it was challenging for her to comment on the allegations because she had no dealings with the properties. She stated, “I never dealt with them,” and reiterated that she had no business or connection with Silverest Gardens. When questioned about allegations of her involvement in payments for the properties, she expressed surprise, denying any such payments and stating that she was shocked to see documents with her name listed as the payer. She acknowledged remembering a Silverest Gardens representative presenting such documents in court but maintained her denial.
