Allow us to hold rallies, M’membe tells Govt

By NATION REPORTER

ALLOW us to hold rallies, this will help us to mobilise and sell our political programmes and manifesto, Socialist Party president Fred M’membe has said.

Dr M’membe questioned why the UPND is so fearful of the opposition political party having rallies.

“Holding rallies is important as it allow us to mobilise, communicate and sell our political programme – our manifesto to broader masses,” he said.

The opposition leader said it is guaranteed as a constitutional right for the opposition to hold rallies and engage the peoplea.

“We, therefore, advise the UPND to stop standing in the way of our hard-earned multiparty democracy, freedom to assemble and let the opposition hold their rallies,” Dr M’membe said.

He said “These are not even matters that we should be raising 60 years into our independence.

Dr M’membe said since the UPND came into power, no opposition political party has been allowed to hold a public rally.

Dr M’membe said, President Hakainde Hichilema and the ministers have been holding rallies across the country but opposition are being denied their rights.

He wondered why the Government could be so scared of the opposition when it has boasted of improving the welfare of the country.

“These people have been saying that they have done a good job just in two years they have been in office but why are they so scared of the opposition,” Dr M’membe said.
