Gwembe council warns contractors

By VITA BANDA

GWEMBE Town Council Secretary Maliwa Muchuu has urged contractors not to do substandard work as they risk their contracts being terminated.

Mr Muchuu expressed disappointment when he discovered that a contractor used smaller steel bars, Y-12 instead of Y-16 during the ongoing construction of crossing points which are being funded by the rural development fund component under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

He said Government’s desire is to construct infrastructure that will stand a test of time and improve people’s lives.

Mr Muchuu said, those given an opportunity to do works need to do a good job.

Mr Muchuu said, there are a number of contracts in Zambia who could do a better job, therefore, those who were awarded contracts need to execute good job.

He said, the local authority will not tolerate contractors who want to do shoddy work because this will have negative impact on the welfare of the people.

“Government has released the money for these works and we expect contractors to put up quality work.

We cannot sit down and see a contractor putting up substandard work. We need to do these projects once and for all,” he said.
