The Archdiocese of Lusaka has said the statement purporting to have been authored by the Priests in Lusaka was nothing but a fabrication and repugnant attempt to injure and discredit the reputation of the Most Rev. Dr Alick Banda.

In a short but terse statement co-signed by Rev Fr Solomon Tembo, the Vicar General and Fr Evaristo Chuya, the Lusaka Clergy President, the Archdiocese of Lusaka has vehemently denied authorship of the statement which has been circulating on social media with nihilistic attacks against Bishop Banda.

The Catholic Church says the statement purported to have been issued by the Priests was as distasteful meant to ruin the reputation of the Archbishop of Lusaka and his Clergy.  The Archdiocese of Lusaka stated that the statement was written in bad taste and urged the Catholic faithful to treat it with the contempt it deserved.

“Once again on behalf of the Priests from the Archdiocese of Lusaka, we vehemently deny authorship of the purported statement that the priests have rejected Bishop Banda. We appeal to all Cathjolic Christians and people of good will to consider the aforementioned article a mere fabrication and consider it repugnant and distasteful aimed to discredit the reputation of Most Rev Dr Alick Banda, the Archbishop of Lusaka and his clergy. The article was written in bad taste and we urge you treat it with the contempt it deserves,” the Archdiocese of Lusaka said.

The Archdiocese of Lusaka is encouraging all the law faithful to continue praying for the unity of the Catholic Church and the Archdiocese of Lusaka as they traversed the challenging period.

“Let us find consolation in the words of Jesus. Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven,” the statement reads.
