Don’t insult President, Spuki Mulemwa tells politicians

By NATION REPORT

The office of Republican President and the person who occupies it deserve respect as he is Head of State for all Zambians regardless of their political or religious affiliation, Zambian DNA spokesperson Spuki Mulemwa has said.

Mr Mulemwa said it was unfortunate that some sections of society, including some political party leaders,  were bent on abusing the recently abolished Defamation of the President clause by pouring scorn, ridicule and contempt when criticising the Head of State.

“Whilst Zambians enjoy the freedom of expression, they can exercise their much cherished freedom to criticize Government without necessarily disrespecting the Presidency and attacking the character of the President as is the case now,” Mr Mulemwa said. He said it was worth noting that the office of the President could be occupied by any other person that the Zambian people would give the mandate to take over leadership of the country after every five years.

“It’s for this reason we expect every Zambian citizen to respect the office of the President and the person who occupies it,” Mr Mulemwa said.
