Child activist toasts Children’s Act enactment

By KETRA KALUNGA

THE enactment of the Children’s Code Act is a significant achievement towards the protection of children and their human rights because it would not only advance their rights as it would speak for them as the most vulnerable in society, Child Rights Activist Lusa Kilale has said.

Ms Kilale said in an interview that putting into law of the Act No. 12 of 2022 would promote and protect the rights of children and ensure a safe environment for children which was critical because they are the future leaders.

She said there has been an increasing casing in which children’s rights are violated such as defilement and child marriage among many other forms of abuse but the Act would help in dealing with such exploitations and in turn promote the rights of children.

“The enactment of the Children’s Code Act No. 12 of 2022 is a very important step in advancing the rights of children in Zambia, the enactment of the act shows government’s commitment in protecting the rights of children in the country which is commendable,” she said.

Ms Kilale said enforcement and application of the children’s code act would consolidate the protection of children because they are the most defenseless in society.

She said the progressive move demonstrates government’s commitment in protecting the rights of children who are vulnerable because they lack to ability to defend themselves.
