The condition of two of the nine police officers who were battered during the Kamwanza village riots in Katete and admitted at the local St Francis Hospital has been said to be stable and out of danger.
Senior Medical Officer Dr. Jonathan Malala said the two officers were out of danger after they were wounded after marauding villagers ran amok following reports of wizardry in the community.
Nine police officers were badly battered on Saturday after the village mob attacked them on suspicion that the police were colluding with suspected criminals causing terror in the village.
Inspector General of police Lemmy Kajoba, his counterparts from Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Lieutenant General Colin Barry and Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS) Commissioner General Fredrick Chilukutu visited the assaulted officers after the attack.
The trio were briefed about the condition of the two police officers and were happy that they had stabilised.
Deputy police spokesperson, Danny Mwale said in a statement that Dr. Malala told the three service chiefs that one of the assaulted officers was nursing a swollen leg and a painful right shoulder while the other has head injuries and a fractured left arm.
Dr. Malala said seven officers were discharged on Sunday morning after being treated.
He explained that the aim of the visit of the three service chiefs was to check on the condition of the officers as well as seek guidance from health experts as to whether they could be evacuated to Lusaka for specialised treatment.
Mr. Mwale said however, Dr. Malala guided that there was no need to evacuate the officers to Lusaka as the hospital was managing the situation.
