DISASTER IN WAITING, WARNS KAMFINSA MP

By ROGERS KALERO

More than 100 houses in Ndeke and Mulenga townships of Kamfinsa constituency in Kitwe are on the verge of collapse due to serious soil erosion near Kamate Mate stream unless appropriate action is taken to save them, Kamfinsa Member of Parliament Christopher Kang’ombe has said.

Mr Kang’ombe said the situation was a “disaster in-waiting” and appropriate action must be taken instead of waiting for the disaster to happen before taking remedial measures.

Mr Kang’ombe, who is also Patriotic Front National Youth Chairman, was speaking yesterday when he toured some damaged bridges and crossing points at Katoka Mema, Mwekera-Chipashi, Minsaka B in Ndeke township.

He said he had decided to tour some damaged bridges and crossing points with officials from the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) officials so that they see for themselves the bad state of some bridges and crossing points and how urgent they needed the rehabilitation works.

He said he had brought the matter of 100 houses which were on the verge of collapse in parliament, but the Minister of Infrastructure Development proposed that the constituency should use the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

‘’I came with the Kitwe District DMMU so that they see how bad some of the bridges and crossing points are and how urgent they need rehabilitation works. At this point connecting Ndeke and Chamboli, I can tell you that houses around this area are on the verge of collapse due to serious erosion.
