Manchester United have made massive progress in the signing of Frenkie de Jong and according to Football Insider, the Red Devils are likely to wrap up the deal in the next two days.
The report claims: “Man United are in advanced talks to sign Frenkie de Jong and an agreement is expected in the next 48 hours, Football Insider has learned.
“United are confident they are close to a breakthrough in negotiations following new developments this evening.”
Man United have been chasing the ex-Ajax midfielder as soon as the season had ended and it looks like Barcelona have finally decided to part ways with him.
Barca had tried to sign Harry Maguire in a cash-plus-player deal for Frenkie de Jong but according to the report, United are about to sign the Dutch midfielder in a £64.4 million cash-only deal.
Is Frenkie De Jong set to leave Barcelona by the end of this week?
Football Insider is very reliable when it comes to reports for the non-top-six Premier League teams but this time they are correct about Manchester United as well.
Fabrizio Romano has also given a positive update regarding De Jong’s move to Manchester United claiming that the Red Devils are currently running the final few laps of the race.
He wrote on Twitter: “Manchester United had a new direct contact today for Frenkie de Jong deal.
“After €65m new verbal bid, Barça ask for €85/86m fee. The agreement is finally getting closer as clubs are in talks about add-ons to reach €85m full package.
“Work in progress between clubs.”
Both these reports vary on what the transfer fee is going to be but one thing is for sure, it’s only a matter of time before Manchester United get their hands on Frenkie de Jong.
Barcelona are likely to get a figure very close to what they have been demanding from day one but based on their current struggles United won’t be worried about the money at all.
Man United have been really labouring to sign the midfielder and this just goes to show how badly their reputation has fallen in recent years. The club are yet to sign even a single player this summer so meeting Barca’s financial demand was the only way to ensure that Frenkie de Jong joins them asap.
