Shibuyunji, January 24, 2022, ZANIS—Minister of Education, Douglas Syakalima, has commended teachers in rural areas for their tireless effort in providing quality education to the pupils.
Mr. Syakalima said despite the challenges the teachers are facing such as lack of accommodation, lack of transport and poor road network, their work has remained admirable.
He said the teachers are doing a commendable job in delivering quality education even in hard to reach areas.
He explained that such effort will not go unnoticed in the new dawn administration.
Mr. Syakalima was speaking in Shibuyunji district after touring government projects in Nampundwe.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Syakalima was in Shibuyunji district to inspect government project and also to appreciate the challenges which teachers are facing.
And speaking at the same event, Shibuyunji District Education Board Secretary (DEBS), Sylvester Mukanda, revealed that there was a serious shortage of teachers and lack of accommodation and transport in the area.
Mr. Mukanda said the teacher-pupil ratio is one to one hundred and four pupils in the district.
He said this situation can hinder quality service delivery to the pupils.
He noted that so far, the district has about 30,000 against 400 teachers.
Mr. Mukanda has since appealed to the minister to help mitigate the challenges.
