Court upholds Kampamba Mulenga’s election as Kalulushi MP

THE Kitwe High Court has upheld the election of Kampamba Mulenga as Member of Parliament for Kalulushi Constituency.

Kitwe High Court Judge-in-Charge Charles Chanda declared that Ms Mulenga was duly elected because the petitioner Rashidah Mulenga failed to discharge the onus of proving the allegations to a fair high degree of convincing evidence as per the provision of the Electoral Act.

This is a matter in which Kalulushi independent losing candidate in the August 2021 general election Rashidah Mulenga petitioned the election of Kampamba Mulenga claiming bribery, vote buying among other electoral malpractices.

But during the five hour judgement yesterday, the court found that the allegations were not proven as most of them were based hear-say.
And in an interview shortly after being declared winner, Ms Mulenga expressed happiness that justice and the will of the people of Kalulushi had prevailed.

Ms Mulenga said it was good that the case was finally put to rest and that it was now time to start working and address the challenges people in the constituency were faced with.
Meanwhile, Rashidh Mulenga declined to comment on the ruling as she immediately drove off after the case was disposed of.
