PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATIONS PROGRESSING WELL

The filing in of nominations for the August 12 Presidential candidates at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka is progressing well.

So far two candidates from the New Heritage Party and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have successfully filed in their nominations.

Economic Freedom Fighters Presidential Aspirant Kasonde Mwenda and his running mate Changala Siame were the second to file in their nominations.

ZANIS reports that the two were duly validly nominated after they swore oath before Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chairperson Esau Chuulu.

Speaking shortly after filing in their nominations, Mr Mwenda said today is an important day as it provides his party the significance in its journey to contribute to the economic emancipation of the country.

Mr Mwenda stated that he believes that the economic emancipation is a journey for all Zambians.

“EFF is not a party but a lifestyle of hard work, it is a lifestyle of passion and hope that refuses to die,” he said.

The EFF Presidential aspiring candidate pledged to prioritise fighting corruption if voted into office of the presidency.

He said his party will lift Zambia to a status where everyone will be proud of by ensuring that every citizen benefits equally from the country’s economy.

“So we will dedicate ourselves to fighting corruption fully. Zambians need to be encouraged and motivated and help them look forward to a country where people have equal opportunities regardless of their status in society,” said Mr Mwenda.

And Mr Mwenda urged Zambians to put aside tribal differences and concentrate on promoting unity in the country.

“If we forget tribal differences, we will make Zambia better. Let us love one another and be the Zambia that is united,” he stressed.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia has set August 12 for the 2021 general elections.

All aspiring candidates from various political parties including independent candidates for Presidential, National Assembly, Mayoral/ Council Chairperson and Councillors are this week expected to file in their nominations to this effect. – ZANIS
