A 36 years old man will toil for 60 months in jail working from sun up till sun down after the Choma Magistrates Court convicted him for stealing an Ox valued at K5, 000.

In this matter, Julius Mbewe stood charged with one count of Stock Theft contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence are that Mbewe and 3 others known stole an Ox valued at K5, 000 the property of Newman Farms.

The theft happened on March 27 in Choma District of Southern Province.

When the matter came up for judgment before Court, Resident Magistrate Salie Kanunka after analysing the evidence adduced before her from three witnesses established that the accused person was part of the Cartel that stole the animal.

The court went on to establish that the accused person decided to ferry the animal nicodemusly at night because he knew that it was stolen.

She thus found him guilty and sentenced him to 60 months imprisonment with hard labour with effect from April 1, 2021.

Mbewe was informed of his right to appeal to the High Court within 14 days if he was not happy with the ruling.
