The 23-year-old man who is alleged to have murdered his girlfriend in cold blood and bundled her body in a Suitcase in the bid to dispose of the corpse in a secluded area raised eyebrows in Choma Magistrates Court when he corrected the State that the name of the deceased was incorrect.

Tamuka Muzingwani who appeared for explanation of the charge before Principal Resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo brought it to the attention of the Court that the name of the deceased was Namangolwa Nalishebo and not Anna Chimuka which was showing on the indictment.

In this matter, Muzingwani a receptionist and resident of Choma’s Mukasa Extension Residential area is charged with one count of Murder contrary to section 200 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Allegations are that Muzingwani on January 30, 2021 in Choma murdered Anna Chimuka.

It is further alleged that Muzingwani was apprehended in the evenings of the same day by members of the public who became suspicious of the heavy suitcase he was carrying. It happened that one of the people he requested to help him carry the heavy load switched on his phone torch to see what was inside, only to discover it was a lifeless human being.

When the charge was read to him Thursday afternoon, Muzingwani confidently told the Court that he understood the charge but disputed the name mentioned saying it was not for the deceased. “I understand the charge your Honour, but that name ‘Anna Chimuka’ is wrong, the correct name of the deceased is Nalishebo Namangolwa’’ he said.

Magistrate Mupemo advised him to use the alleged error as his defense if he so wished, this was before she adjourned the matter to March 3, 2021 for another mention as the Court awaits instructions from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
