THE Zambia Under-17 Boys National team Assistant coach Chisi Mbewe has expressed satisfaction with the preparations ahead of the Under 17 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Morocco from March 13 – 31.

Speaking after a 2-2- draw with City of Lusaka yesterday, the coach said more friendlies were being lined up to ensure the team was match ready and fit.

Richard Ngoma and Joseph Sabobo Banda scored for the U-17 team, while Russel Mukuma netted a brace for City of Lusaka.

Meanwhile, the Under-17 captain Miguel Chaiwa says the team has set their sights on winning the Africa Cup.

Chaiwa expressed confidence that the team had been training hard and they would not relax because they understood the competition would be tough.

“Our objective is to reach the Top Four and then win the final,” he said.

The team has been trimmed from 41 to 30 in week two with twenty players currently in camp, members of the team that finished runners-up at the 2020 COSAFA U17 Cup where they lost 5-4 to South Africa following a 1-1 draw.

“They (ten new players) have brought in massive competition they are fighting to have a place in the team which is good and even for the team that played the COSAFA U17,” Mbewe said.

Most of the current Under 17 squad were part of the 2020 under-15 Vlatko Markovic Invitational Tournament in Croatia.

Zambia was last at the under-17 Africa Cup of Nations in 2015.
