Man explains cannabis was for ear infection treatment

A 20 years old man told the Choma Magistrates Court that the 2 balls of Cannabis he was found with were for his ear infection ailment that he has been battling with.

Alid Phiri explained to Principal Resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo that he has an infection in his ears and was using the Cannabis to treat the ailment.

In this matter, Phiri is charged with one count of Trafficking in Psychotropic Substances contrary to the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropics Act of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence are that Phiri trafficked in 3.0 grams of Marijuana a Herbal product of Cannabis Sativa without medical recommendation or lawful authority.

The incident happened on February 3, 2021 and the accused was apprehended on the same day by a team of Drug Enforcement Commission Officers.

When he appeared for plea, Phiri without wasting the Court’s time admitted the charge and quickly explained why he was found in possession of the 2 balls.

The matter will come on February 10 for Facts and possible sentencing.

Phiri was remanded in custody.
