Authorities at Kawambwa Secondary Technical School in Kawambwa district, Luapula Province have dispelled social media reports that the institution has recorded COVID-19 positive cases among pupils.

ZANIS reports that School Head teacher Bestone Musonda has told Luapula Province Minister, Nickson Chilangwa who rushed to the school to assess the situation.

Mr. Musonda says contrary to the false reports, there is no single case recorded at the school from the time of opening.

He assured parents of the children’s safety while in school adding that there is no need to panic.

“I want to dispel social media reports that some of our pupils here were found with COVID-19. That is fake news and I want to assure you Honorable Minister and parents that what they saw on social media is not true,” said Mr. Musonda.

And Mr. Chilangwa who is also an area Member of Parliament has donated face masks to the school.

Mr. Chilangwa said it is exciting to note that no single pupil or teacher has caught the pandemic at Kawambwa Secondary and many other schools in the constituency.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chilangwa has pledged to work with the school to help revamp its industrial arts department to make it more productive. Mr. Chilangwa said the school has a capacity to be a centre for the manufacturing and rehabilitation of school furniture owing to the machinery that the school possesses.
