A cyclist in Kasempa district has died after falling into a ditch whilst carrying a 25 kilogramme bag of mealie meal.
North-Western province Commissioner of Police, Joel Njase has confirmed the sad development in a statement to ZANIS today.
Mr Njase identified the deceased as Musune Muzimo aged 33 who left home around 08:00 hours on February 2, 2021 to take maize for grinding at the hammer meal but did not return home only to be discovered dead along the road yesterday around 11:00 hours.
He disclosed that upon visiting the scene it was discovered that the deceased was in drunken state and was descending on a bicycle which did not have breaks.
“Scene was visited and discovered that the deceased was descending on a bicycle without breaks, a 25 kilogramms bag of mealie meal on the carrier and he was in a drunken state and further lost control of his bicycle and fell down in a ditch of about 2 meters dip and the edge of the culvert is suspected to have entered into his left eye leaving him injured and a bicycle fell on top of his body”, Mr Njase said.
He said the deceased died on the spot after sustaining a very deep cut on his left eye.
Mr Njase said the deceased was found with a bottle of spirit beer which was almost half.
He said the body of the deceased was found in a decomposed state and police advised the relatives to bury as no foul play is suspected.
