Mufulira prepares for school opening

The Ministry of General Education in Mufulira district is putting measures in place to stop the spread of Covid-19 as schools open on Monday,   January 18, 2021.

Mufulira District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Elizabeth N’gonga said she has been inspecting schools in the district to ensure that they have sufficient hand washing facilities ahead of the reopening of schools.

“We have been going round the schools and once we know what is missing for the schools to be made a safe place for the children during the Covid-19 pandemic, then we will be able to quickly ensure everything is in place before Monday,” she said.

Ms Ng’onga said schools in Mufulira are ready for the reopening under be strict adherence to Covid-19 guidelines.

“We are ready and are just conducting final checks to ensure all the schools have sufficient hand washing facilities and that all the Covid-19 preventive guidelines are followed,” she said.

Government has set the 18th of January as the date for primary and secondary schools in the country to reopen. Ministry of General Education Permanent Secretary, Jobbicks Kalumba recently maintained that schools will still open amidst the Covid -19 pandemic.
