25-Year Old Choma Murder Suspect Committed to High Court

A 25-year-old man of Choma who is charged with the murder of a peasant farmer has been committed to the High Court by the Choma Magistrates Court.

David Mangena of Nakabanja village in Choma appeared before Principal Resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo for the offence of Murder contrary to section 200 of the Penal Code-Chapter 87 0f the Laws of Zambia.

Allegations are that Mangena murdered Zondiwe Milimo.

The alleged incident is said to have occurred on October 16, 2020 in Choma district of Southern Province.

When he appeared for explanation of the charge before Court, Monday morning, Mangena understood the charge read to him by Magistrate Mupemo.

Magistrate Mupemo informed him that the offence he is charged with is only triable in the High Court as such he will be appearing before the subordinates Court for mentions until instructions to commit him to the superior Court are issued from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The matter was adjourned to January 15, 2021 for mention and possible committal to the High Court after public prosecutor Catherine Sakala made the application for an adjournment.

Mangena was remanded in custody as the offence is not bail able.
