ZRU Chief in continental body

THE Zambia Rugby Union (ZRU) president Brigadier General Clement Sinkamba, has been appointed to the Referees Committee at Rugby Afrique.

According to a statement issued by ZRU spokesperson Tom Chaloba a letter from Rugby Afrique Afrique General Manager Coralie Van den berg confirmed the appointment following a Committee meeting held earlier which the decision was arrived at.

When accepting the appointment, the rugby boss expressed delight & dedicated the appointment to all Zambians.

“It is gratifying to receive such a recognition & subsequently a seat at a Continental Body and we don’t take it lightly. I hereby dedicate this position/appointment to all the people that help make rugby in Zambia what it is”. He added that it is his desire to help raise the refereeing standards in Africa generally and Zambia in particular,” Sinkamba said.

Meanwhile, Director of rugby Noble Chisanga in an interview with the Times of Zambia expressed hope that the appointment would yield positive results and change the fortunes of referees in the regions

“Firstly, it is a good representation, We are looking forward to the status  of improving whistle  men’s affairs . The appointment is the recognition for Zambia Rugby and the region he represents,” he said.

Chisanga was confident that Sinkamba would fit well in his new role having served as Rugby Africa executive committee member where he still represents the southern region .

“We  are so delighted at his appointment  and hopefully it will yield good results and fortunes for our referees not only in Zambia but the southern region ,” Chisanga  said.
