PRISON ESCAPEE SUSPECT CAGED

Choma man accused of multiple murders fled ‘inhuman’ treatment

THE Choma Magistrates Court has convicted a murder suspect who escaped from lawful custody that saw two Police Officers thrown into the Cells for negligence.

In this matter Richard Chisele , 37, a farmer of Mapanza area in Choma stood charged with Escaping from lawful custody contrary to the laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offence are that Chisele on September 11 being a person in custody at Choma Central police station unlawfully escaped from such custody.
When he appeared for plea before Resident Magistrate Ethel Phiri, he admitted the charge against him.
In his admission, Chisele told the Court that he decided to escape after experiencing inhuman treatment whilst in the Cells.
According to the Facts dictated by Senior Public Prosecutor Alex Syulikwa, the accused person was apprehended in Mwembeshi district after police launched a manhunt.
Prior to his apprehension, Chisele was in custody being investigated for many murders that rocked Choma town.
Magistrate Phiri sentenced Chisele to 6 months imprisonment with hard labour with effect from the date of arrest.
