Thieving farmer jailed 12months

A CHOMA Farmer has received a combined 12 months jail sentence after being convicted in four criminal counts among them Stock Theft.

In these matters Wispin Sikawetu stood charged with three counts of stock theft and one count of assault contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offences are that Sikawetu stole 9 Goats in separate incidents all valued at K1,750 the properties of Henry Hamambo, Golden Maambo and Field Sikabayi.
In the other count Sikawetu assaulted Allan Munkombwe and thereby occasioned him actual bodily harm.
The incidents happened between July 19 and 21 in Choma.
According to facts on record, the accused bit Munkombwe when he attempted to apprehend him.
When the matter came up for judgement before Court, Resident Magistrate Ethel Phiri found the accused person guilty after being con-vinced that the state had proved their cases beyond reasonable doubt.
She sentenced Sikawetu to 3 months simple imprisonment in each count .
The sentences will run concurrently.
