Juvenile admits to house breaking, theft

AN 18-year-old male has pleaded guilty before the Nakonde Juvenile Court to breaking into a house and getting away with properties valued at more than K1,900.

In this matter the 18 years old Juvenile is charged with House Breaking and Theft contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence are that the juvenile offender broke into Judith Nalwinga’s house with intent to commit a felony therein, and did steal a Laptop Bag, 1 Techno Phone and assorted clothes all valued at K 1,920 the property of the said Nalwinga.

The break-in happened on 14 May 2020 in Nakonde district of Muchinga Province.

When the matter came up for age determination after the State disputed that he was a juvenile, the Hospital medical report indicated that the accused person was aged between 18 and 22 years.

Resident Magistrate George Banda thus took the age that was most favourable to the accused and proceeded with the matter into plea and treated him as a Juvenile.

After the charge was read to him, the juvenile willingly admitted to the offence without wasting the Courts time.

He told Court that he broke into Nalwinga’s house and looted the things mentioned.

After entering a plea of guilty, the Court adjourned the matter to 7th August 2020 for Facts.

The juvenile is remanded in custody.
