Cannabis lands man in jail

A 24 year old man of Kafue has been sentenced to four months imprisonment with hard labour for smoking and selling Cannabis without lawful authority.

Appearing in the Kafue magistrate court before magistrate Kawama Mwamfuli was Bupe Milongwe accused of trafficking in 3.0 grams of cannabis without lawful authority.

Statement of offence is that, on June 24 in Kafue district of the Lusaka province, police officers of Shikoswe compound received a report that some people in the area were smoking and selling Cannabis. They went to search and found a group of people with loose vegetables suspected to be Cannabis.

Milonge and others were apprehended and handed over to DEC officers who later interviewed him and he accepted the charge.

The officers took the drug to the Kafue general hospital to be tested and found it was 3.0 grams.

Court said Milonge had no lawful authority of trafficking drugs and hence was charged accordingly.

Milonge pleaded to the court that he had learnt his lesson and will never do it again. He asked the ourt to exercise leniency on him because he was on medication.

However, the Court heard his mitigation and sentenced him to four months imprisonment with hard labour.
