Absa unveils new Kitwe branch

SANFROSSA MANYINDA writes

ABSA Bank PLC has re-opened the Kitwe City Square Branch, the biggest in the country, following its overhaul at a cost of K6.5 million.

The Kitwe Square is another of Absa’s five flagship outlets which was temporarily closed to undertake refurbishment.

The branch is tailored to provide customers with retail, corporate and business banking services and was aligned with the model of being a one-stop bank.

Unveiling the re-branded bank, Absa Zambia Managing Director, Mizinga Melu, said that an investment of K6.5 million was made on the project which lasted four months.

“We have been on a journey to refresh all our branches following our brand and name change journey and we are extremely proud of the steps we have taken to ensure that our customers are served in safe banking environments particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic,” Ms Melu said.

She said that following complaints from customers on the limited number of automated teller machines (ATMs), the refurbished centre came with five of them bringing the total to nine in the city.

And Ms Melu said that the bank had spent over US$7 billion to grow the investment in the mining city over the last three years.

“Mining is the biggest sector in the country and we will be able to update the nation on the state of the investment for the past six months.

“We are currently working with the Bank of Zambia to make sure that we get an application of over K1 billion from the stimulus package,” Ms Melu said.

Absa Bank Zambia has made the transition from Barclays Bank.
