Mwepu, Daka expected back in action

AARON MUBANGA writes

AUSTRIA-BASED Zambian duo of striker Patson Daka and midfielder Enock Mwepu are expected to return to action at the end of May.

This follows the Austrian government’s decision to give a green light on for the continuation of Austria’s top division the Tipico Bundesliga that typically starts in June.

The announcement was made by Health Minister Rudolf Anschober and Sports Minister Werner Kogler this morning at a press conference with league board member Christian Ebenbauer also in attendance.

The ten remaining rounds of the 2019/20 Bundesliga season, as well as the three Europa League playoff games and the cup final, will be played without a spectator and under the measures of a prevention concept.

The framework schedule for the remaining rounds of the Tipico Bundesliga is set to be drawn up at the club conference. The season must end on July 31st but what is certain is that the ÖFB Cup final should take place before the restart of the Bundesliga.

According to a new regulation, full team training will be allowed again. Currently, as a health priority, the clubs divide their squads into four small groups of six players.

If a player tests positive to the Coronavirus, only that player will be quarantined while the rest of the team will continue to train and even finish matches.

The ÖFB Cup final between Red Bull Salzburg and Austria Lustenau is expected to take place on Saturday, 30 May.

The Tipico Bundesliga could start on either Tuesday and Wednesday (June 2nd / 3rd) or Saturday and Sunday (June 6th / 7th) with the 23rd round, the first of ten match days of the final rounds.

The Zambian duo are key members of the Salzburg squad with Patson Daka having scored 17 League goals this season and he is only 5 goals shy from the top scorer Shon Weissman While Mwepu has played 29 games in all competitions for the  Die Mozartstädter.

Salzburg is currently second on the log with 24 points after 22 games and are just three points shy of log leaders LASK Linz.
