Man admits lying to police about age

A LUSAKA man has told the Magistrates court how he lied to police officers about his age when he was caught with marijuana behind a police post.

Appearing before Magistrate Martha Miti was Steven Lungu, 22, a bus conductor of Matero is accused of trafficking in 24.2 grammes marijuana.

When magistrate Miti read his charge and where it was indicated that he was a juvenile, Lungu said he was not a juvenile but 22-years-old.

Lungu told Magistrate Miti that he lied to the police officers that he was a juvenile because he was badly beaten.

Magistrate Miti: Did you traffick in Marijuana?

Lungu: Yes.

Magistrate: What where you doing with marijuana?

Lungu: I was smoking.

Magistrate: Where were you smoking?

Lungu: Behind Lilanda Police station.

The matter comes up on 2 June for facts and sentencing
