TAXI DRIVERS WON’T RENT OUT OUT MASKS

SANFROSSA MANYINDA writes

WE will not allow taxi drivers to rent out masks as the trend is against the health regulations spelt out by Government, the Copperbelt Taxi Drivers Association (CTDA) has declared.

CTDA general secretary Sydney Chileshe told The Sun in an interview in Kitwe yesterday the association had issued strict instructions to drivers not to rent out masks and that passengers should always have protective garments on their faces.

Rumours are going round on the Copperbelt, especially in Kitwe, that some public transport operators were renting out masks to passengers, who are returning on arrival.

Mr Chileshe said the association had not recorded any complaint of that nature but would not allow such an illegality.

“We cannot allow this to happen, especially that a directive has already been made by the head of State that is supposed to be followed by everyone. We are strict as an association and do not see that happening with our members even in the near future,” he said.

Mr Chileshe said everyone should adhere to the presidential directive, which he described as straight forward and non-negotiable.

He did not see the association having challenges of drivers renting out masks or passengers boarding taxis without masks with so many monitoring measures in place.
