IMPART FARMERS WITH CLIMATE CHANGE INFORMATION-DC

NON-GOVERNMENTAL organizations (NGOs) that support farmers in research and extension should impart information to local farmers on effects of climate change information, Ndola district commissioner George Chisulo

Mr Chisulo said failure to equip the farmers with information on climate change threatened the potential of the district to produce a good yield.

He told ZANIS in an interview that adequate information on climate change would enable farmers to plan well for their crop production.

Mr Chisulo said that farmers also need to be equipped with knowledge on types of climate resilient crops which they could diversify into to secure food at household level.

He emphasized that climate change was real and there was a need for a shift in the manner farmers conducted their businesses.

“Since time immemorial, farmers have used indigenous tradition knowledge. But with climate change setting a cast, there is need for farmers to adopt to new farming mechanism to suit changes in weather and climate conditions,” Mr Chisulo said
