ERRATIC water supply has hit Lusaka’s Chelstone and surrounding areas forcing people to walk long distances in search of the commodity.
The residents complained that they had had no water for one week and the situation was getting worse.
One of the affected residents of Chelstone, Frank Phiri, said it was sad that the most important commodity in a home was not available forcing residents to move long distances in search of it.
Mr Phiri said living without water was not healthy and that most of the people with boreholes in the area made them pay just to draw water.
“This is too much. We have not had water in the area for the past one week and we have to buy water from neighbors with boreholes, which is an additional cost to us.
“We are not sure why we have not had running water and when the problem will be resolved in Chelstone and surrounding areas even after construction a new water tank in a bid to improve the water challenges,” he said.
And another resident Esther Mulenga said it was unfortunate that the Lusaka water Sewerage company (LWSC) had not informed them that Chelstone would not have water for days to help them prepare adequately.
Ms Mulenga said water was the most important commodity in a home and that it was difficult for homes to be managed without the commodity.
“It’s important that we are well informed every time we have no water for days so that we can come up with a new plan of where to be getting water unlike LWSC not telling us how long we will not have water.
“And out of desperation we are looking for water everywhere who knows we may end up getting water which is safe and the cholera outbreak can start again,” she said.
